Paul Cameron

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 10 months ago

Homophobic 'researcher' who heads the Family Research Institute and is often cited by Conservative Christians when bashing GLBT people.

Expelled from the American Psychological Association

  • On December 2, 1983, the American Psychological Association sent Paul Cameron a letter informing him that he had been dropped from membership. Early in 1984, all members of the American Psychological Association received official written notice that "Paul Cameron (Nebraska) was dropped from membership for a violation of the Preamble to the Ethical Principles of Psychologists" by the APA Board of Directors. Cameron posted an over-elaborate argument about his expulsion from APA on his website, claiming that he resigned from APA before he was dropped from membership. Like most organizations, however, the APA does not allow a member to resign when they are being investigated. And even if Cameron's claims were accepted as true, it would be remarkable that the largest professional organization of psychologists in the United States went to such lengths to disassociate itself from one individual. Nebraska Psychological Association doesn't want anything to do with Paul Cameron

  • It has stated that it "formally disassociates itself from the representations and interpretations of scientific literature offered by Dr. Paul Cameron in his writings and public statements on sexuality." (1)

American Sociological Association on Cameron

  • The American Sociological Association has stated that "Cameron has consistently misinterpreted and misrepresented sociological research on sexuality, homosexuality, and lesbianism." (1)

Judge Jerry Buchmeyer's declaration about Cameron

  • In Baker v. Wade, he has said that "There has been no fraud or misrepresentations except by Dr. Cameron." (2)

Paul Cameron is NOT a Sociologist

  • In 1986, the American Sociological Association passed the following resolution. "The American Sociological Association officially and publicly states that Paul Cameron is not a sociologist, and condemns his consistent misrepresentation of sociological research." (1)

"Aids is a Godsend"

  • "I think that actually AIDS is a guardian... So it's really a Godsend." (3)

Does he advocate mass-murder?

  • "Unless we get medically lucky, in three or four years, one of the options discussed will be the extermination of homosexuals." (3), (4)

About as credible as Weekly World News

  • Paul Cameron's first appearance on the Internet is in an archived article in the tabloid magazine, "Weekly World News", he said "it should be illegal to be a homosexual" and that they're "worse than murderers." (5)

Tried to blame SARS on gay people

  • Even though SARS has been linked to the Civet, Cameron and the Family Research Institute tried to link SARS to gay rights and gay people in general. (6)
