Biological and Chemical weapons program that was for the Apartheid Regime and set up by the Civil Cooperation Bureau. South Africa said that this program was for defensive purposes only, but it was later found out that one of the more secretive and malicious items on Project Coast's Agenda was to create a biological weapon that would target black people only. Along with ethnic bioweapons, Project Coast also borrowed some Soviet tactics and tried to develop weapons that looked like everyday objects. Examples included umbrellas and canes which fired pellets which contained poison, syringes that looked like screwdrivers, and beer cans and envelopes filled with poison. (2)

The project used several front companies to accomplish this purpose. These front groups included:

Protechnik

Roodeplaat Research Laboratories

Project Coast was also connected to the trafficking and experimentation of illicit drugs such as ecstacy, cocaine, ketamine. (3)
